Our Mission: Support for Communities

The Ruby Slipper Fund is a volunteer-run community initiative that provides financial assistance to individuals on the Sunshine Coast from Langdale to Egmont who are affected by cancer and experiencing financial hardship. Through charity events, fundraising, and community donations, we support local people and families who have exhausted other available sources of assistance.

We are also dedicated to supporting families and caregivers of those diagnosed with cancer as we know how much it can affect everyone.

Our Inspirations: Patsy’s Story

The Ruby Slipper & Black Boot Fund was established in honour of Patsy Rothenbush who passed away in the Summer of 2009 at the age of 51.

Having received so much support from the Sunshine Coast community herself, it was Patsy's wish that a fund be started to support others affected by cancer on the Coast.

To help make her vision a reality the Ruby Slipper Fund & Black Boot Fund was founded by her close friends on the Sunshine Coast.

IN MEMORY

Mel’s Memorial Fund

Mel’s Memorial Fund was established in memory of Melanie Jane Foody, who passed away from Cancer on April 29, 2019. Mel lived in Roberts Creek with her four great kids. She loved her family, the beach, as well as hiking with her friends and dogs.

Every year, Mel hosted a dance party in November for friends to dance away the winter doldrums. At the end of the evening, a hat was passed around for those who wanted to make donations. These donations were used to support families in make their lives just a little bit easier.

When Mel passed away, we decided to keep up the tradition and hosted a local dance party at the Roberts creek Legion. It was a great event and was the start to Mel’s Memorial fund.

When Covid hit, the group had to get creative with fundraising. They decided to make and sell handmade donuts…which were Mel’s favourite. Through donut sales and dance parties, Mel’s Foundation has been honoured to support the Ruby Slipper Black Boot Society.
